Karen Moore, a quality control reporting analyst based in North Carolina, has found a meaningful way to combine her love for sewing and crocheting with her passion for helping others. Through her church’s sewing ministry and a partnership with nonprofit organization Operation Shelter Agriculture Vocation Evangelism (SAVE), Moore helps make comfort dolls for boys and girls and hygiene products for women and girls facing challenges of “period poverty” both locally and abroad.
“Without access to appropriate feminine hygiene products, girls and women improvise, leading to infections or school absences during their period,” Moore says. “This leaves them at home and vulnerable to victimization.”
Moore has never ventured outside of the U.S., but the things she’s crafted for her church’s sewing ministry and Operation SAVE have traveled the world, reaching people in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala and Malawi, giving her feelings of joy and fulfillment.
“I’ve seen photos of women and children in faraway places holding things I helped make, places I would have never dreamed having a connection with before,” she says.
Moore has been with Arch for 30 years, joining the company through the United Guaranty acquisition that took place in 2017. For her, Arch’s corporate Values, Voluntary Time Off (VTO) benefit and 2:1 gift match enable her to become more involved in things that matter to her.
Last September — when Hurricane Helene pummeled the western part of North Carolina — Moore appreciated Arch’s 2:1 gift match more than ever.
“My donations were able to go so much further and helped so many more people,” Morre says. “Three of the charities I donated to were astounded by the incredible generosity of Arch.”
Inspired by her parents and guided by her faith, Moore sees helping others as a core part of who she is. Being a part of a company such as Arch allows her to fulfill her charity work.
“Please use your VTO and corporate matching benefits,” Moore says. “The compassion and generosity Arch shows amplifies your efforts. One person, one company can make a difference.”
