Andrew Ivanovski, a rising senior studying risk management and insurance at St. John’s University, is a professional liability underwriting intern in Arch Re. He returned to Arch for a second internship in summer 2026 and has made the most of his time here so far.
“My first year was definitely a learning curve, and I recognize I still haven’t gotten over that curve yet. One of my first tasks was to evaluate underwriting submissions. Though this was initially unfamiliar,” explains Ivanovski. “I always knew I could ask a question when I needed to.”
He quickly found that although the work was difficult, he wasn’t alone. The philosophy of asking questions created the welcoming environment that Ivanovski continued to grow in.
With support from his managers and peers, Ivanovski was able to navigate the demands of a challenging internship while recognizing that the workload was part of what made the experience so valuable.
“It’s almost like I’m being treated as an actual underwriter and not just getting busywork which is really cool. This entire place really put a lot into the interns here,” Ivanovski said.
“The reason why I wanted to come back was the culture.
“My first year was to learn about the business; you don’t know it until you’re in it. To gain confidence as well. This year coming back, it definitely feels as if there is a family here, and success is honestly to learn as much as I can, to keep bettering these relationships, and to find a better understanding of this business as a prospective underwriter.”
Ivanovski’s journey at Arch connected him with a network that values his growth. In return, he brings curiosity, effort and a willingness to learn from every opportunity, using each experience to build practical underwriting knowledge and contribute more confidently to his team.
