Human Rights Policy

This policy is guided by the principles expressed in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Arch Capital Group Ltd. and its subsidiaries (collectively, “Arch” or the “Company”) are committed to respecting the rights of all individuals in our value chain. This Human Rights Policy (“Policy”) sets forth standards for global business conduct related to human rights and labor for our Company, including all our employees and suppliers.* In developing this Policy, we considered the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

General Principles

We believe in treating everyone with dignity and fairness and demonstrate our ongoing support for equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion in our workforce, as reflected in our Code of Business Conduct PDF. Our Code of Business Conduct specifically provides, “The Company is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all Employees and prospective Employees in every facet of its operations. All employment-related decisions, including hiring, employee treatment, training, compensation, promotion, transfer, benefits and disciplinary action, are made solely on the basis of the individual’s job qualifications and performance, and without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, genetic information, citizenship status, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, affectional or sexual orientation, atypical cellular or blood trait, marital status, veteran status, membership in the armed services, political affiliation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.”

At Arch we believe all people are entitled to basic rights and freedoms, regardless of their nationality, gender, religion, race, or any other status. Basic rights and freedoms include civil rights, political rights, social and economic rights, cultural rights, minority rights and women’s rights.

In addition, we commit to the following principles and expect our suppliers to do the same:

  • Fair Treatment. Our Company is committed to complying with all labor laws in the jurisdictions in which we operate. In the United States, these laws include, but are not limited to, posting and meeting minimum wage and other requirements in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Forced Labor, Child Labor and Human Trafficking. We are committed to ensuring that no form of forced labor, including modern slavery and human trafficking, exists within our business or our supply chains. We will seek to source and purchase products and services used in our business operations from suppliers who share this commitment. See also our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement. Arch employees may freely terminate their employment in accordance with applicable laws and regulations without fear of physical, psychological, sexual or verbal abuse.
  • Freedom of Association. We respect freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.
  • Safe and Healthy Workplace. We are committed to providing a workplace that complies with applicable safety and health laws and regulations.

Governance

This Policy is reviewed by senior management and is published on our Company’s website.

Each year, we implement this Policy by requiring all directors and employees throughout the control group, to read, understand and adhere to the provisions contained in the Code of Business Conduct. In addition, these provisions are reinforced through online training that all employees and directors are required to complete. With respect to our suppliers, we are rolling out our Supplier Code of Conduct to both new vendors and legacy vendors through contract renewals and requesting that they commit to conducting business according to the highest legal and ethical standards, as outlined in our Supplier Code.

Stakeholder Engagement

We are committed to engaging with our investors, employees, communities and other stakeholders on the potential impacts of our operations, including those related to human rights. To understand, prevent, and mitigate any adverse effects our activities may have, we commit to monitor and take into account stakeholder feedback in connection with the implementation of this Policy and the evaluation of the effectiveness of measures taken pursuant to this Policy.
